You’d have the Japanese version, the Western European language version, Natural cure the English-only version and so on. You’d end up with a hoard of individual software code bases, each needing their own testing, updating and ongoing maintenance and support, which is very expensive, and pretty near impossible for businesses to realistically support without serious digressions among the various language versions over time. ISO Latin

A single-byte character set that we often see in applications is ISO Latin 1, Peshawari Chappal which is represented in various encoding standards such as ISO-8859-1 for UNIX, Windows-1252 for Windows and MacRoman on guess what platform. This character set supports characters used in Western European languages such as French, Spanish, German, and U.K. English. Since each character requires only a single byte, this character set provides support for multiple languages, while avoiding the work required to support either Unicode or a double-byte encoding. The reason is that it’s likely these software applications will need major reworking of the encoding support in their database and functions, methods and classes within their source code to go beyond ISO Latin support, which means more time and more money – often cascading into later releases and foregone revenues. However, if the software company has truly global ambitions, they will need to take that plunge and provide Unicode support. Unicode

We come back to Unicode, which as we mentioned above, is a character set created to enable support of any written language worldwide. UTF-8

Once you’ve chosen to support Unicode, you must decide on the specific character encoding you want to use, which will be dependent on the application requirements and technologies. UTF-8 is one of the commonly used character encodings defined within the Unicode Standard, which uses a single byte for each character unless it needs more, in which case it can expand up to 4 bytes. People sometimes refer to this as a variable-width encoding since the width of the character in bytes varies depending upon the character. The advantage of this character encoding is that all English (ASCII) characters will remain as single-bytes, saving data space. This is especially desirable for web content, since the underlying HTML markup will remain in single-byte ASCII. In general, UNIX platforms are optimized for UTF-8 character encoding. Concerning databases, where large amounts of application data are integral to the application, a developer may choose a UTF-8 encoding to save space if most of the data in the database does not need translation and so can remain in English (which requires only a single byte in UTF-8 encoding). Note that some databases will not support UTF-8, specifically Microsoft’s SQL Server.

UTF-16

UTF-16 is another widely adopted encoding within the Unicode standard. It assigns two bytes for each character whether you need it or not. So the letter A is 00000000 01000001 or 9 zeros, a one, followed by 5 zeros and a one. If more than 2 bytes are needed for a character, four bytes can be combined, however you must adapt your software to be capable of handling this four-byte combination. Java and .Net internally process strings (text and messages) as UTF-16.

For many applications, you can actually support multiple Unicode encodings so that for example your data is stored in your database as UTF-8 but is handled within your code as UTF-16, or vice versa. There are various reasons to do this, such as software limitations (different software components supporting different Unicode encodings), storage or performance advantages, crypto investor etc.. Warren Buffett, the famous billionaire investor, recently wrote to Congress, asking them to consider tax increases on the wealthiest American taxpayers. The Chairman and Chief Executive of Berkshire Hathaway has $349.2 billion in estimated net assets, and has repeatedly topped Forbes’ lists of the most powerful individuals in business.

In his letter to the New York Times last week, forbes Buffett made an impassioned argument for higher capital gains and income tax rates on those with incomes in excess of $1 million per year. In particular, Buffett criticized the trend in which those who “make money from money,” like investors, often pay significantly less tax than those who make money from a job. Buffett quoted numbers compiled by the IRS since 1992, looking at the tax returns of the 400 Americans with the largest reported incomes. Among these individuals, the aggregate taxable income amounted to approximately $16.9 billion and they paid 29.9 percent in tax. The term Civil Society, CS with its broad groupings remain an active part of the society that we cannot ignore. Because state and charitable recourses no longer get to the citizens adequately, Civil Society Organization, CSOs have emerged, responding to this challenge as advocates and agents of a more just and caring society. Implicitly, they help to develop and nurture conscientious concern in the emerging global culture.

CSOs and Advocacy
As advocates and agent of change, the term advocacy has become synonymous with CSOs, charteracatamaraninthebvi involving wide range of activities, carried out by non-governmental organizations, NGOs. In a broad sense, advocacy can be defined as activism, campaigning or movement around a particular issue.

As a result of there actions over time, NGOs now impact policies as well as advance initiative which at a time was nearly an exclusive “rights” of government and coporations. And because corruption in government circles is clearly at odd with many fundamental premises of civil, political and economic rights, NGOs flexibility and connections to grassroots communities aid them in mobilizing resources quickly in responding to the challenge. Quite often, their single-minded commitment, independence and strong motivation afford them a civic power that other institutions may lack. I don’t usually get a chance to interact with senior city officials and I asked Sandra what the proper way of addressing her would be. She simply said “just call me Sandra”, vitamondo and the ice was broken. We sat down and Sandra was ready to tell me her life story.

Sandra Bussin grew up just north of the Beaches, near Woodbine and Danforth, in the Dawes Road area. At that time the area was mostly Scottish, Irish and English. He would sign the report card himself and turn it back in thus avoiding the bad news of the conduct grade. He carried out the plan to perfection, turned the report card in and all was well; or so he thought! When the teacher reviewed the report cards to verify that parents had actually signed them, Evan’s had a curious signature. He had signed the report card MOM. In a week or so, we ask Evan when he was going to get his report card. You can guess what happened next. That guilty face overcame him and he confessed what he had done. We reacted in a calm manner and explained to him why what he had done was wrong. We demonstrated to him that we were not going to “shoot him” when he needed to bring home bad news. We would talk about the problem, determine the appropriate action and move on with life. EXUBERANCE

The English word exuberance has a certain ring to it, so much so that even non-English speaking people probably recognize that it connotes a joyful, celebrant quality, rich with excitement, almost lustful (in a polite way), living with the positive emotion of cheerful ebullience.

Exuberance is about human flourishing.

As a REAL wellness dimension, exuberance is the category for happiness and joy, meaning and purpose, social and relationship connections, the quality of work, careers and more. It’s hard to go overboard seeking exuberance–synonyms for the term suggest its attractive qualities, including but not limited to jauntiness, high spirits, exultation, gaiety, effervescence, vivacity, zest and even chirpiness! Exuberance is expressed in the contagiousness of play, laughter, the giddiness of new (and old) love, the intoxicating effects of music and in varied forms of religious ecstasy. (Note: Mention of religious ecstasy in this context should not be seen as an endorsement of being slain in the spirit, dancing with poisonous reptiles, exorcisms or other forms of group squealing, shrieking, inability to stand or sit, loudly uttering apocalyptic prophecies, holy laughter or human barking.) atlasmatras

As with anything else taken to ad absurdum levels, exuberance can be and is in some cases experienced in unattractive, jejune ways. Three examples should suffice to make the point:

• Artificial highs beyond the heights, with loss of one’s usual capabilities of sound judgment, as with overindulgence in chemical substances, such as drugs and alcohol.

IV. Background

Unlike the way we learn language and religion, namely from parents or guardians who raise us and others who influence our early years, most of us do not engage in much independent thinking about our unique purposes or other existential-like questions. Only after years of experiences and personal development do we develop a capability to identify and describe our own take on purposes and meanings, if ever.

As time goes on, we often make new discoveries, and our ideas about meaning change and evolve. Just when we think we’ve found our purpose (s), things happen and we realize that additional adjustments are in order. We might do well to learn to expect this, to remain attuned to further possibilities that seem of interest, sometimes compelling and even consequential in reshaping our reflections on such matters.

 

A John began by instructing me to sit cross-legged on the ground, while he stuffed some straw just under the tip of my tailbone, but not too much – he cautioned that too much straw would surely cause my legs to fall sleep. Then he tucked my left heel between my legs and placed my right foot on top of my left calf while pushing both my knees down so that they remained on the ground, locking my legs in place and straightening my back into, what he said, was the correct posture for doing the inner work. legenday

He then looked at me and said, “Breathe through your nose and notice the air touching the inside of your nostrils or on the rim of your nose. Focus on the exact spot where you feel this. “Of course you can’t feel it,” said a John when I mentioned this. “The air has nothing to strike on the way out. You must establish the spot during the in-breath and then remember its location when you breathe out. Then re-establish it on the in-breath. Please try again. Oh, and two more things; I want you to stretch your neck up as you relax your shoulders, and tuck your chin in slightly, then breathe in normally when you inhale, but make your exhalation twice as long as your inhalation. Your strength and power to concentrate increases with the out breath.”

He had me practice until I was able to remain concentrated on the spot. “You will be able to focus this way for just a short period of time,” he continued, “before your untrained mind jumps around and begins thinking of many things. Sometimes you will become lost in thought for twenty minutes or more before you remember what it is you are supposed to be doing, which is concentrating on the feeling of your breath. “This first stage of concentration involves applying attention. Here, you direct your mind to a certain concentration object, in this case the feeling of your breath in your nose, just as you would direct a hammer toward a bell and then you strike it. You strike the bell; you strike the object with your mind’s attention. It rings for a while, which means that you maintain undivided attention on the object, and then the bell stops ringing, meaning that you lost your attention as your mind drifted here and there. Then you must strike it again repeatedly to reestablish your attention.

“Let me assure you that this back and forth is normal for someone new to the inner work. A beginner must constantly battle with his or her mind to remain concentrated, for you see, the mind is accustomed to daydreaming and entertaining itself with the past or future and is not at all interested in being restrained from this activity with the inner work. Therefore, it will be an on-going struggle to bring your mind back repeatedly to the spot in your nose.

“Remember these three important things: One: stay on the spot where your breath touches the inside of your nose, and if your attention strays, come back to it immediately. Two: always be completely ‘in the moment’ and see everything as if for the first time. A John then directed his attention to Savaka, “Because you are an immaterial being without senses of touch, taste or smell, you cannot use the feeling of the breath as a concentration point, you must use mental awareness by watching thoughts. Here you will see thoughts as merely passing phenomenon, as if you were perched in a tree watching water buffalo coming up the trail, passing below, and finally continuing down the trail until they are out of sight. Just as you would not jump from the tree onto the backs of these water buffalo, you should not let thoughts carry you away either. Simply watch each thought until it disappears on its own, always being cautious not to lose your awareness that you are watching each thought. Just being aware that a thought is present is usually enough to dissolve it. If you are not fully conscious of your thoughts, however, you will become caught up them and taken for a ride.”

“What if I am so good at this that there are no thoughts?” she asked.

“Then be completely in each moment and concentrate on the blank screen of the mind where thoughts appear. Be very observant and watch carefully, however, for you must be always prepared to ambush the first thought that dares to appear. Be careful, because subtle thoughts are very clever. They hide. ‘I’m waiting to ambush a thought!” is a good example of a clever, subtle thought. Since they can become exceptionally fine and seemingly non-existent when they know they are being observed, you must try with great effort to discern these extremely refined and incredibly subtle levels of thought, for these are the subliminal undercurrents of your loud, everyday mind.”

Oklahoma built a 21-3 lead and held off a late Nebraska rally to grab the win. The Sooners held Nebraska to 16 yards rushing on 34 carries (0.5 ypc) thanks to nine sacks for 57 yards. Oklahoma forced the Huskers to three-and-out on their first five possessions and Nebraska gained just 101 total yards in the first half. The Sooners defense stood on fourth down to end the game.

Wake Forest 44 DUKE 6

Wake Forest racked up 557 yards of offense including 419 yards rushing on 51 carries (8.2 ypc). Duke gained just 50 yards on the ground on 31 carries (1.6 ypc). The Blue Devils crossed midfield only twice on the day and had just two drives of more than 26 yards. Wake Forest had seven drives of 54 yards or more.

NC STATE 21 Southern Miss 17

NC State rallied from a 10-point deficit with two fourth quarter touchdowns to pull out the win. The Wolfpack outgained Southern Miss 425-246 but nearly let the game slip away with four turnovers all inside its own 42-yard line. The defense forced the Golden Eagles to eight punts in the first half but the offense committed all of their turnovers in the first 30 minutes.

Cincinnati 22 SYRACUSE 16

The long season continues for Syracuse as a dropped pass on fourth down inside the Cincinnati 30-yard line resulted in another loss. The Orange won the yardage battle by five yards but the Bearcats held them to just 52 yards rushing on 40 carries (1.3 ypc). Cincinnati scored the game winning touchdown on a 17-yard fumble recovery early in the fourth quarter.

(12) Ohio State 45 MINNESOTA 31

Minnesota hung 578 yards of offense on Ohio St. but it was the Buckeyes who scored four touchdowns in their first five second half drives to pull away. Ohio St. scored on a kickoff return in the first half to take a 10-point lead but Minnesota was able to tie the score before the break. The Gophers put together just one scoring drive in the second half not counting the garbage score.

(15) Wisconsin 41 ILLINOIS 24

Wisconsin scored first and never gave up the lead even though Illinois outgained the Badgers 538-464. The Illini were hurt by two missed field goals and interception inside Wisconsin territory. The teams combined for 500 yards rushing and it was Wisconsin with the biggest one on a 46-yard touchdown to seal the game.

MICHIGAN STATE 46 Indiana 15

Indiana hung around for a while but costly mistakes did the Hoosiers in as they were 1-4 inside the redzone and committed four turnovers that negated 181 yards of offense. Michigan St. piled up 493 yards of offense and started the game by returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown. The Spartans had a balanced attack of 237 yards rushing and 256 yards passing.

Texas Tech blew open a close game by scoring 22 points in the fourth quarter. Baylor was outgained by just 50 total yards but the Bears were hurt by their own mistakes. (19) AUBURN 27 Ole Miss 3

Auburn held the Rebels to 209 total yards while Mississippi didn’t have a single drive longer than 34 yards. The Rebels field goal was the result of a fumble by the Tigers. Auburn had two fumbles, one that resulted in the field goal and another that was lost at the Mississippi five-yard line. The Tigers held the Rebels to 23 yards rushing on 27 carries (0.9 ypc).

KANSAS 13 Missouri 3

The Tigers managed just 180 total yards including 33 yards rushing on 30 carries (1.1 ypc). Kansas wasn’t much better on offense with 298 total yards but two touchdowns were more than enough. The Jayhawks turned the ball over on two of their first three possessions but Missouri converted just one of two field goal attempts.

Miami-Ohio 41 TEMPLE 14

Miami outgained the Owls 506-195 but the game was still close late in the second quarter until the RedHawks scored the final 24 points of the game. Temple had only 74 total yards in the second half, crossing midfield only once. Miami finished 12-19 on third and four down conversions while controlling the clock for 11 minutes more.

CENTRAL MICH 21 Toledo 17

Total yardage numbers differed by just eight yards and first downs by just two in a game that came down to the final play. Central Michigan allowed the Rockets to get down to the four-yard line but Toledo had only once chance to win the game and threw an incomplete pass. Toledo was inside the Chippewas 35-yard line on its last five possessions but managed just three points.

Ohio U 34 BUFFALO 20

Ohio jumped out to a 20-0 lead but the Bobcats nearly let the Bulls back in the game as Buffalo pulled to within a touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Western Michigan scored the first 21 points but let the Golden Flashes pull within seven points midway through the third quarter. East Carolina outgained the Golden Knights 542-430 but the Pirates had three costly interceptions.
