Gatlinburg is a city which believes in celebrating life, its customs, traditions and its people. In the fall season locals get busy preparing for the Smoky Mountain Harvest Festival, which has a number of other events as well. Don’t forget to check out the Gatlinburg Craftsmen’s Fair which begins in the month of October. Artisans and other talented craftsmen display their talents in the more than 200 stalls, can custom make a unique piece for you and stay true to Southern traditions. Gatlinburg is also the official site for observing Veterans Day, and many activities are held here in honour of the nation’s Veterans. In the spring, Gatlinburg continues the fun and merry making with an unusual event called the Holly and Shamrock Parade. Hundreds of Santas, elves, reindeer and elves throng the street in a colourful parade. If you visit the Arts and Crafts community show, you can pick up some wonderful pottery, wood carving showpieces, candles and paintings from the many stalls and booths set up here. This show does ample justice to the heritage of the city. Gatlinburg wakes up on Easter morning to a church service that is held at the Ober Gatlinburg, as early as 7:00 am. You will get a first hand view of the beautiful sunrise as well. Highland dancing, haggis treats, whiskey tasting, bagpipe contests, food and other stalls are part of the entertainment at the Scottish Festival and Games, held in May.
